Gianni Sievers (Ph.D. University of Pennsylvania, 2023) is a historian of modern and early modern South Asia interested in cultural, intellectual, and sensory history, Islamic studies, sound studies, and ethnomusicology. As a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Utrecht University, he is part of the research project “Rosewater, Nightingale, and Gunpowder: A Sensory History of the Islamic World, 1500-1900.” In this context, he explores the sensory history of Islam in Mughal and British colonial South Asia and curates the South Asia section of the multi-author handbook Islamic Sensory History, Vol. 3: 1500-2000 (forthcoming with Brill).
